Célébration des Fêtes à Montpellier

Décembre ! Suddenly Christmas trees (sapins des Noël) seem to be everywhere, including the foyer of Hotel Richer de Belleval, and then bands begin marching in the streets. While there are a few days when the sky is not clear, most of the time the sky is clear, sunrise can cast interesting shadows on our living room wall, and even when the sky isn’t clear it’s still beautiful.

Les marchés de Noël à Strasbourg

It was a cold rainy night when Bonny and I set out for Les marchés de Noël and met this elf, who agreed (for euro) to have her picture taken with us. It is one of if not the oldest and largest Les marchés de Noël in Europe; and Strasbourg, approximately the same size population as Montpellier, seems quite large. Like Montpellier, the tram system is the way to get around this very photogenic city.

Messiah at Notre Dame des Tables

The Ensemble Baroque Arianna, the four soloists at the far left, choir and orchestra on period instruments, gave an outstanding performance of Handel’s Messiah in the historic Notre Dame des Tables, the mother church of Montpellier completed in 1748. The above pictures were taken as they presented the Hallelujah Chorus as an encore.
Fireworks (again) in La Grande-Motte

After Christmas once more, we headed for our favorite seaside retreat for fireworks and lobster (excuse moi,
homard) and Champagne at Entre Terre et Mer. Day or night, we love looking out over the Mediterranean and
strolling around this city, unlike any other in France and yet totally French.

Bonne année 2025 !

Midnight – from our Balcony – noisy but not much to see.
